Self-power Mode Vs Bus-power Mode and Auto Switching in USB Hub
Auto switching
Auto switching means that the electronics in the self-powered device can, on loss of its external power, switch to conformance as a bus powered device. This may mean electronically disconnecting devices plugged into its ports until the total load on the upstream USB port is no more than one unit load, or 100 milliamps.
Self-power Mode USB HUB
Self-powered hub (active hub) is one that takes its power from an external power supply unit and can therefore provide full power (up to 500 mA) to every port.
Self-power Mode USB HUB
A bus-powered hub (passive hub) is a hub that draws all its power from the host computer’s USB interface. It does not need a separate power connection.
